Palace Theater Columbus
The Palace Theatre is situated in Columbus, Ohio and is a 2827 seat movie hall designed by Thomas. W. Lamb in 1926. It was designed as an extension to the original structure of LeVeque Tower. It is a hotspot venue for performing arts that is organized on a regular basis
Thomas. W. Lamb designed the theatre in the theme of old and classical Scottish architecture. It reminisces of the royal and grand form of Scottish architecture. It was designed to be used as both a movie theatre and stage acts.
A proper arrangement was made for the theatre in the form of lime lights, sound and other technical's. The acoustics of the theatre is an architectural excellence. The back room for actors was structured as a hotel with complete facilities such as reception where actors would check in.
During the year 1929, the Palace theatre was rechristened as Radio Keith Orpheum (RKO) Palace. The theater used to show silent movies during its heyday but in 1975, it stopped screening movies. Later the owner of the Palace renovated it as a platform for Broadway shows and The Columbus Opera. Apart from that orchestra, live vaudeville, and other musical shows were a part of the history of the Palace.
The Palace Theatre has a Scottish body but a French soul. The impact of the famous architectural marvel Palais de Versailles is clearly seen in its chandelier, fountain, mural and hall. The grandiose and old world charm still exists in its halls in the form of pictures and paintings.
The Palace Theatre is the jewel of Columbus. A regular artistic performance in the Palace Theatre keeps the heritage building in people's memory. Currently CAPA organizes various international and local shows, community shows and events. The Palace Theatre is still striding strong and continues to delight visitors to travel to Columbus.
