In the year 2000, the total population was 711470. Out of this, 7.5% people were below the age of five; 24.2% were below eighteen years and the percentage of senior citizens (those whose age was 65 years or above) was 8.9%. In 2005, the population was 693983. In this, 60183 were over 65 and 77828 were in the age group 18 to 24.
