The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad is popularly known as the Pan Handle Route. The years associated with the railroads are:

Pittsburgh to Columbus - 1848 to 1869

Columbus to Indianapolis - 1847 to 1867

Richmond to Chicago - 1848 to 1865

Realignments towards Chicago and mergers - 1857 to 1869

The Pan Handle was actually several small lines' collection. The Pan Handle has come from Pittsburgh to Columbus on a Pennsylvania Railroad route between Columbus and Newark. The two Pan Handle routes were known as Piqua Line and Little Miami. During 1950, the Little Miami line was the first Columbus railroad.
