
High technology growth and academic prominence in Columbus, OH
Columbus witnessed growth economically post Civil war. The general assembly passed an Act to build the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, which became an integral part and identity of the Columbus city. Later, this institution was renamed as Ohio State University during 1878 and is currently serving as one of the major universities in the country.
The campus consists of more than four hundred buildings spread over thousand six hundred acres. Today, this university's research facility is combined with the Battelle Memorial Institute comprising of the world's largest research organization.
