Columbus during Civil War
Columbus played an important role in the Civil War by serving as the main camp for the "Union Army", housing over twenty six thousand groups and held more than nine thousand Confederate war prisoners at Camp Chase.
Subsequently, two thousand held up soldiers were buried in Camp chase, situated on west Columbus, and the place is thus regarded as the largest confederate cemetery on the North side of the city.
In the eighteenth century, the United States Infantry was trained and organized on the present site of Cape Thomas on Delaware road.
