How Columbus became the Capital City of Ohio
The city of Columbus was laid out during 1812 and was incorporated later in 1916. Earlier, Columbus was not the original capital of Ohio, but it was chosen by the state legislature to relocate the state government after its short tenures at Zanesville and Chillicothe.
Afterwards, it was chosen as the capital mainly because of its location at the centre of the state and Columbus was easily accessible by transport routes through rivers. There were several other competitors in the race for becoming the Capital City of Ohio, like Dublin, Delaware, Franklinton and Worthington.
