The first ever Columbus Marathon held in 1980 was a flat fast race course that begins in downtown Columbus. It goes east to Bexley then back to the Old Town East. It continues to German Village passing through the Short North Arts District and downtown Columbus until the athletes reach Upper Arlington. They go down through The Ohio State University campus and to Victorian Village before going back to the Arena Districts Nationwide Arena, where a huge crowd awaits. The winner of the marathon receives a prize, which is $2500 as the first prize, $1000 as the second prize, and $750 as the third.
