Baseball enthusiasts scheduling a visit to Columbus should check ahead for the forthcoming fixtures of the Columbus clippers at the Huntington Park.
Digging deep, the history of Columbus Clippers can be traced to 1952. Ottawa Giants were disbanded in 1951. Between 1952 and 1954, the Ottawa A's were the affiliates of Philadelphia Athletics. 1055 saw the A's moving to Kansas City and the Ottawa A's to Columbus to be christened later as the Columbus Jets.
From 1957 to 1977 the Jets were Pittsburgh Pirates affiliates though the team had two major movements during the period. The Jets then moved to Charleston, West Virginia to be Charleston Charlies. Between 1971 and 1976 Columbus went without a baseball team. 1977 saw the franchise moving back to Columbus to be christened as the Columbus clippers and retained their affiliation with the Pirates. Financial difficulties forced the Nashville Blues relinquish their franchise to the International League. Charleston was awarded a new franchise retaining the Charlies name.
