Columbus History
Columbus is known to be the man who had discovered America and it was after Christopher Columbus that Ohio's capital was named. The city Columbus history began when Ohio became a state back in 1803.
Ohio's capital then was Chillicothe but because of prominent leaders having conflicts, the state was changed to Zanesville but it didn't last, it was changed back to Chillicothe but the political clash didn't stop which is why the state legislature has finally decided that a new state capital is necessary and it should be in the center of the state.
Because of the legislature decision, several central cities of Ohio fought for the title as becoming the state's capital would definitely be beneficial to the chosen city, but ultimately an offer to the Ohio's General Assembly was chosen and it was named Columbus.
The city of Columbus was founded on 1812. The area chosen to be Columbus was once just a forested area that was only ventured for hunting.
The Columbus history continued when in 1831, finally the national road had reached it which linked the new capital to the Canas of Ohio and Erie and this is when the population of the city boomed. The Irish, Europeans and Germans also came and settled in the new city as well.
In 1834, Columbus had officially been conducted as a city. It was given legislative authority to the council as well as a judicial authority to the city's mayor. This is because the population for the city had already blossomed to 3,500.
The Columbus history is long. It started out as being just a forested area and it was suddenly chosen to be the state's capital when there are many other cities nearby that are fighting for the title. Now it's a decent city and it even got a nickname The Arch City now that attracts visitors on Columbus travel.
