The minor league baseball team Columbus Clippers is based in Columbus and plays the International League. Columbus clippers is the AAA affiliates of Cleveland Indians and the Franklin County Governments owns the team.

The Columbus Clippers started playing in 1977 as affiliates of Pittsburgh Pirates and changed the affiliation in 1979 to New York Yankees. The new affiliation lasted 28 years ending 2006. A subsequent affiliation with the Washington Nationals lasted for only an year. In September 2008 the Columbus clippers announced a new affiliation with Cleveland Indians for a period of 4 years.
